Glennellen Anderson

“Performer for life, no back-up plan.”

These are the words that Glennellen Anderson, a 21-year-old redheaded entertainer, has spoken since she was only 2 years old when she ran up onstage and grabbed the microphone from her parents, Jerry and Katrina Anderson (former members of the New Christy Minstrels), to sing her rendition of “You Are My Sunshine” to thousands of onlookers in the audience. Stage fright is foreign to this singer-songwriter, as well as actress, model, and dancer.

Anderson has performed in numerous theatrical productions, professional as well as community. She originated the leading role of Phanny Brown in an all-new indie musical The Journey, which she also helped co-create as a script consultant and co-lyricist. The show has been presented in the 2014 New Orleans Fringe Festival and with Outre Theatre Company in Miami, FL. She was a soloist in Outre Theatre Company’s 2013 production of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson in Miami, FL. Some of her favorite theatrical roles include Sharpay in High School Musical, Liesl in The Sound of Music, and Glinda in The Wizard of Oz.

She has been in several films, including the ION Television movie Mandie and the Forgotten Christmas, in which she portrays one of the leading roles, Celia Hamilton. She also had a featured speaking role in the 2014 teen comedy Premature, which stars Alan Tudyk (from I, Robot, A Knight’s Tale, and Firefly) and Katie Findlay (from The Carrie Diaries).

In June 2014, Glennellen became a contestant on American Idol Season XIV. She attended the New Orleans auditions, and sang “Put the Gun Down” by ZZ Ward, as well as “Uninvited” by Alanis Morissette, before celebrity judges Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez, and Keith Urban. Anderson soared through to Hollywood excitedly with her family and a golden ticket in hand.

Anderson flew out to Hollywood Week in October 2014 ready to go, her voice strong and her determination at an all-time high. She knew that whatever the results were, she was going to be successful beyond her wildest dreams; whether she made Top 24 or was cut in the middle of the process. What she did not know was exactly what her successful finish on the show had in store for her. Although she was cut on the third day of Hollywood Week, the indie singer still received air time on national television when Idol began airing in January 2015. Since then, she is continuing to gain a following of new fans as they have become familiar with her smile and voice on American Idol, and have seen her on the show’s updates posted on their website and social media.

She made several professional contacts in the music industry during her stay in California. As of December 2014, Anderson (along with her team) traveled to FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals to record her debut album, titled P E R S P E C T I V E.

In 2016, she appeared as Nicole in Netflix’s Stranger Things. Nicole plays a student at Hawkins High School and a friend of Steve, Tommy, and Carol who discovers Jonathan Byers developing the photos he took of the group, Barb, and Nancy without their knowledge.
